Terms of Service
Last updated: 26 March 2026
1. Introduction
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the Screenburn platform (“Service”) operated by Metrotone Media Group (“we”, “us”, “our”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, you may not use the Service.
These Terms are governed by the laws of Finland and the European Union, including the Digital Services Act (DSA), the Consumer Rights Directive, and applicable data protection legislation.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 16 years old to use Screenburn. By using the Service, you represent that you meet this age requirement. If you are between 16 and 18, you confirm that you have the consent of a parent or legal guardian.
3. Your Account
You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and for all activity that occurs under it. You agree to provide accurate account information and to update it as needed. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
4. Intellectual Property — Your Content
You own your content. All screenplays, characters, story questions, answers, scenes, and other creative work you produce on Screenburn remain your sole intellectual property. We claim no ownership rights over your content.
Limited licence to us: By uploading content to Screenburn, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive licence to store, process, display, and transmit your content solely for the purpose of providing the Service to you (e.g., syncing across devices, enabling collaboration, generating exports). This licence terminates when you delete your content or your account.
No AI training: We do not use your content to train, fine-tune, or improve artificial intelligence models. Your creative work is never used as training data.
Anti-AI scraping protection: Paid plans include technical measures designed to deter automated scraping and unauthorised reproduction of your exported screenplays, including forensic watermarking.
5. Service Tiers & Billing
Free tier: Screenburn offers a free tier with limited features. No payment information is required.
Paid tiers: Paid subscriptions are billed monthly or annually through our payment processor, LemonSqueezy. Prices are displayed inclusive of applicable taxes for EU customers, in accordance with the Consumer Rights Directive.
Free trial: Paid tiers may include a free trial period. You will be clearly informed before any charge is made.
Cancellation: You may cancel your subscription at any time from your account settings. Upon cancellation, you retain access until the end of your current billing period. Your content remains accessible and exportable.
Right of withdrawal (EU): EU consumers have the right to withdraw from a purchase within 14 days of subscription, in accordance with the Consumer Rights Directive (2011/83/EU). To exercise this right, contact us at [email protected]. If you have used the Service during the withdrawal period, we may deduct a proportionate amount.
Price changes: We will provide at least 30 days' notice of any price changes to existing subscribers.
6. AI Features
Screenburn includes optional AI-powered features. These features are subject to the following terms:
Screenburn Suggests: Provides contextual examples from public film analysis. It does not access your screenplay content.
Script Mirror: Analyses your writing voice. Requires your explicit opt-in consent before activation. You may revoke consent at any time.
Studio Writers Room (Studio): AI-assisted content generation available on Studio plans. Generated content becomes your intellectual property upon creation.
AI features are provided on a best-effort basis. AI-generated suggestions are not guaranteed to be factually accurate or free from bias. You are responsible for reviewing and editing any AI-generated content before use.
7. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
Use the Service to produce, store, or distribute content that is illegal under EU or Finnish law, including content that infringes third-party intellectual property rights, constitutes hate speech, or depicts child sexual abuse material.
Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract source code from the Service.
Use automated tools, bots, or scrapers to access the Service without prior written consent.
Share your account credentials with others or allow unauthorised access to your account.
Interfere with the security, integrity, or performance of the Service.
8. Data Protection
We process your personal data in accordance with our Privacy Policy and the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679. You have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection as detailed in the Privacy Policy.
9. Service Availability & Liability
We aim to provide a reliable service but do not guarantee uninterrupted availability. Scheduled maintenance will be communicated in advance where possible.
Limitation of liability: To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claims arising from or related to the Service shall not exceed the total amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded by law.
No exclusion of statutory rights: Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer under EU law.
10. Account Termination
By you: You may delete your account at any time from your account settings. Upon deletion, your personal data and creative content will be permanently removed within 30 days.
By us: We may suspend or terminate your account if you materially breach these Terms. We will provide notice and an opportunity to remedy the breach where reasonably practicable, except in cases of serious or repeated violations. You may export your data before account termination takes effect.
11. Dispute Resolution
We encourage you to contact us first at [email protected] to resolve any disputes informally.
EU consumers: You may also use the European Commission's Online Dispute Resolution platform at https://ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.
These Terms are governed by the laws of Finland. Disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Helsinki, Finland, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer protection provisions of the law of your country of residence.
12. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated to registered users by email at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not agree with the changes, you may cancel your account before the new terms take effect.
