INT. WAREHOUSE NINE - NIGHT
A concrete floor under one strip light. Through the open loading door, cranes and a lit sign: PORT DE MARSEILLE. Eleven men stand in a half circle around a wooden crate. ISLA REED, 24, red hair tied back, charcoal on her fingers, a paint stained jacket, stands on the crate. GERALD REED, 55, cardigan, thin grey hair, holds her elbow. At a folding table HUGO DELORME, 64, black coat, reading glasses, opens a leather book. TINO FALCO, 40, leather jacket, phone in hand, stands nearest the crate. At the back, apart from the others, LUCIAN VASQUEZ, 36, in a grey suit, looks at the book and not at the crate. Beside him SACHA BRUNET, 33, cropped hair, a key ring on his belt.
DELORME
Debt paper. Gerald Reed. Twelfth of September, two thousand and twenty six. Two hundred thousand owed to the Marchetti house. Secured on the person of Isla Reed.
ISLA
Gerald.
GERALD
Two hundred.
TINO
Two hundred. For Mr Marchetti.
Isla pulls a photograph from her jacket and holds it in Gerald's face. In it ROSIE REED, 19, red hair cut short, a green jacket with a burnt cuff, laughs at the camera.
ISLA
Rosie has been gone since June. You said Lyon.
GERALD
Not now.
ISLA
Where is she?
DELORME
Two hundred, once.
LUCIAN
Four.
Heads turn. Lucian keeps his eyes on the book.
TINO
Mr Marchetti does not go past two.
LUCIAN
Then he has lost.
DELORME
Four hundred. Twice.
Tino puts the phone to his ear. Lucian turns a page of the book with one finger.
LUCIAN
Isla Solenne Reed.
Isla's hand finds the edge of the crate.
ISLA
Nobody knows that name.
DELORME
Four hundred. Sold. Vasquez.
Delorme writes. Gerald takes an envelope from Delorme's table and counts it with his thumb. Sacha steps to the crate and holds out a hand. Isla puts the photograph away and steps down on her own.
ISLA
Who are you?
LUCIAN
The man who paid.
SACHA
The car.
Sacha walks her toward the loading door. Tino lowers the phone and takes a second envelope from his jacket. Gerald takes it without looking at it.
GERALD
Go on, love. He did his homework.
Isla looks back at the second envelope in Gerald's hand. Sacha's hand closes on her arm. The loading door rolls down between them.
End of episode one.
